This goes way back but memories stay. My wife and I started with SCCA in 1960 and became corner workers and later Chiefs of flagging and communication, Chicago Region SCCA,Fred and Judy Fiala. Chicago Region SCCA Timing and Scoring, lead by Don and Ruth Nixon, were supplying the timing and scoring for Ford due to the mess that occurred in 1966, when no one knew where any of the car were. I was told that the English team that did that work for the Ford team got totally lost and if fact gave up. That is why the Chicago region team was hired for 1967. Since we were both major officials for all the races at Road America, and by accident I ask Don Nixon since we were going to be in France on vacation and we would like to help if possible. We would pay our own way and use our VW van for sleeping behind the Ford pits. It worked out that we arrived in Le Mans and were put to work, My wife Judy to T & S and me to the pit lane with liaison duty and phone duty to the Pit Chief, can't remember his name after all these years. We could add a lot of information on what went on and done to make the Ford Team successful. 2601:704:480:3DA0:4D8F:D6C7:BD63:8DA0 (talk) 03:56, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
